What's for Dinner? — Terms of Service

"What's for Dinner?" is a free cooking-scheduling game available at whats4dinnergame.com and on Reddit, operated by Whats4Dinner LLC ("we", "us"). By playing, you agree to these terms. If you play inside Reddit, Reddit's terms apply there too.

1. The game

The game is free to play and provided as-is. We may add, change, or remove features — including the game itself — at any time.

2. Accounts

You don't need an account to play. You do need one to design and publish your own dinner. You must be at least 13 to create an account, you're responsible for what happens under it, and each account may have one live published dinner at a time (publishing a new one replaces the old).

3. Your content

Dinners, recipes, and photos you create remain yours. By publishing them, you give us permission to host, display, and adapt them as needed to run the game (for example, compiling your recipe into a playable level or showing your dinner on leaderboards and your creator page). You promise that:

A published dinner is the designer's content, not the platform's — all of it: the photos used as eater icons and dish icons, and every word the designer writes or imports, including dish names, ingredient and topping names, eater names, and the lines eaters say at the table. The designer is solely responsible for that content and for the rights to use it. We don't review, verify, or endorse what designers publish, and to the fullest extent the law allows, we're not liable for it.

We may remove content or suspend accounts that break these rules.

Recipes are player content too. Whether typed in, pasted, or imported from a link, a recipe enters the game because a player brought it — and that player is responsible for having the right to use it. If anything in the game infringes your rights or shouldn't be here, email us (below) and we'll take it down.

4. Recipes are for fun

Recipes in the game — including ones other players design — are entertainment, not professional cooking or nutrition advice. Real cooking is on you: check food safety, cooking temperatures, and allergens yourself.

5. Fair play

Leaderboards are for humans playing the game. No bots, exploits, score tampering, or spamming boards with names meant to impersonate or offend. We may remove scores or restrict access to keep boards fair.

6. Prizes & sponsored dinners

Creators — sometimes together with a sponsoring brand — may attach prizes to a dinner's leaderboard. When they do, the contest is offered and fulfilled by that creator and/or sponsor, not by us: we're not a party to it, we don't hold or deliver prizes, and we're not liable for it. Each contest is governed by its organizer's own rules, which may add eligibility requirements (such as age or region). Only signed-in players are eligible to win a prize. Anyone can still play anonymously and appear on the board, but prizes can only be awarded — and winners contacted — through a registered account.

Prize contests are time-sensitive, and the winner's reply is a verification step: responding confirms that a real person — not a bot or an abandoned account — is behind the winning account and the email it's registered to. Winners are notified at the email address on their registered account, so keep that address able to receive mail — if you signed in with Apple and chose to hide your email, our messages reach you through Apple's relay only while its forwarding is turned on. If a winner doesn't reply within 48 hours of the notification being sent, verification fails and the organizer and/or sponsor may, at their sole discretion, pass the prize to the next eligible player on the final leaderboard or declare it forfeited.

Contests may be limited to a geographic region — for example, a prize redeemable only at a particular restaurant is naturally for players who can get there. The organizer's rules set the region, and it's shown with the contest. Anyone can still play and appear on the leaderboard, but players outside the region aren't eligible for the prize, and the organizer may pass over them when selecting winners. During winner verification the organizer may ask you to confirm that you live in, or can redeem the prize in, the contest's region — a false confirmation voids the win. To help organizers administer regional eligibility, we may record the coarse location (country and region, derived from your connection) from which scores were played.

Prizes must be won fairly. A dinner's designer knows its answers — the ideal toppings and the best possible schedule — and inside knowledge disqualifies: any win aided by answers, hints, or solutions received from the contest's organizer, the sponsor, or anyone else with advance knowledge of the dinner is void. An organizer who shares answers may have the entire contest voided and lose the ability to run prize contests here. Contest rules may additionally exclude the organizer's household, family, or associates from eligibility.

Scores and standings as the game computes them are final. To keep boards fair we may remove or adjust entries we believe are cheating — including play through multiple accounts or the insider play described above — and those decisions may affect a contest without creating any liability for us. Dinners with sponsored content are labeled based on the creator's declaration; creators are responsible for complying with the advertising-disclosure laws that apply to them.

Contests are void where prohibited or restricted by law. Contest laws differ from place to place — including between U.S. states — and the organizer is responsible for complying with the laws of every place their contest is open, including any registration or bonding requirements, and for limiting eligibility in their contest rules accordingly.

7. Liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we're not liable for indirect or consequential damages from playing (or being unable to play), and our total liability is limited to what you paid us — which, for a free game, is nothing. Nothing here limits liability that can't legally be limited.

8. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and any dispute about them belongs to the state or federal courts located in King County, Washington. If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still applies.

9. Changes

If these terms change, we'll update this page and its effective date. Playing after a change means you accept it.
